From One DB to Another

I find it very interesting how an export file from a mysql database, as created by phpmyadmin, is a self-contained, self-expanding unit. It’s not just a file containing the text of your blog entries, and all the other database goop. No, it’s a complete series of SQL commands required to create and then populate the tables, etc. that comprise, say, a MovableType blog’s database.

Having the export file in editable format, I took the opportunity to remove the hardcoded references to a specific domain used by my image links, opting instead to be relative to the root of whatever server is hosting site. That solved the missing images problem caused by letting the mike-sheryl.com domain lapse, but I am getting frustrated that my as yet unamed registrar hasn’t even acknowledged my service request.
