eTech05: Military E-Tech

JC Herz gave an eTech presentation on the current status of adoption of emerging hi-tech by the military.

After a brief description of the needs of the military she presented a short video of an image analysis project that they hope will yield some useful technologies to be used for future defense systems.

Next, another speaker began by sharing the urban legend about the killer kangaroos.

He continued to discuss the issues related to software failures, and described some techniques he and others are trying to use to overcome these difficulties.

They are looking at using blogs and wikis to support their discussions and research.

A third presenter described a 3d capture and display system. As he pointed out, 3D imaging has been an emerging tech for almost 100 years (stereoscopic postcards through virtual reality). He did have an interesting video showing one of their stereoscopic cameras and how the system analyzes the visual data it captures.

Overall, an interesting, but slightly unfocused presentation.
