A Year of Luminosity

Today marks one year since I started my photoblog known as luminosity. Over the past 365 days, I’ve posted 330 entries, mostly landscape photos, local celebrations, and memories from our travels.

The first 6 months I somehow managed to post a picture a day! That’s a pace that won’t be repeated in the coming year, as I plan to cut back to a once or twice weekly schedule. That will allow more time for developing Back Roads Studio, among other things.

I started luminosity shortly after I began shooting with a digital SLR camera last fall. Between the increased attention to the craft of photography that a new camera always brings and the higher quality lenses available with an SLR I wanted a site to showcase the best of the resulting pictures.

I’ve used Canon film SLR cameras for quite some time, starting back in ’79 with an AE1, but during the early years of this century I primarily used digital point and shoot cameras and so was really excited to resume using a “real” camera.

One thing worth noting is that the archives at luminosity are different than most blog archive listings. Rather than the typical text listing, sorted by category or date, the date and category archives at luminosity represent each article with a thumbnail image which can be clicked to view the full entry. The links to the archives are visible on the right side of the page when visiting luminosity.

So, as they say, that was fun. I am still quite enjoying shooting with a digital SLR, however … Though it often only took 10 minutes or so to select, prep, upload and post each day’s image, it is another deadline I’m I’m not going to miss. I’ve posted a picture on luminosity marking its one year anniversary; there will be another one within the next week.

And no surprise, all of the pictures I’ve posted on luminosity as of today are also available for view on Flickr: luminosity on flickr, the first 6 months, and luminosity II on flickr, the rest of the year.

A very small sample from the first year of luminosity:
