3 Things That Make Me Happy

It’s been a stress-filled day (month) and while (finally) taking a break this evening I read Wil’s very apt words of wisdom:

I remembered something someone said to me many, many years ago. I forget the precise wording, but the suggestion was to take a moment every day to identify three different things that I was happy or grateful for. The exercise is awesome, because the first thing is always very easy to list, but it’s a challenge to just pick two more things.

1. I’m grateful for my loving and supportive family. Sheryl, Lisa and Moneka each in their own unique ways add to my happiness and being close to the rest of my family offers me an easy, unspoken comfort that only closeness can bring.

2. I’m happy that I have a challenging and enjoyable job with wonderful colleagues, many of whom I’ve known for over 20 years.

Wil’s right. The first 2 were very easy for me, but there’s an easy dozen other things I’m grateful for, which makes number 3 pretty tough. Ok, technology to the rescue. I just wrote down 5 things I’m grateful for on a (Mac) Stickie and then generated a random number between 1 and 5 (using the command ‘jot -r 1 1 5‘).

3. I’m grateful for my friends, here and there, real and virtual. Without you, life would be a dull tapestry indeed.

Over to you …

  1. I am sorry you are having a hard month and I can sympathize. Not a good time here either. A book I read a long time ago said we should write down 5 things we are thankful for every day. When I keep a journal I try to do that. Try.

The Christmas lights on your street really look nice. I might have to try a photo or two.
