Two Years in Lindsborg

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of our return to Lindsborg after an absence of 26 years.

It’s hard to believe the time has passed so quickly, but really, at my age I shouldn’t be surprised.

So while we’re both happy here, and happy with our decision to move back, my heart remains heavy.

It’s not because of the general state of affairs in the world. It’s specifically because our country has lost its moral compass. The US Senate is very close to ratifying new laws that legalize torture and essentially eliminate the protections of the Geneva Convention. In addition, these new laws will upend the concept of habeus corpus, a cornerstone of western civilization since the signing of the Magna Carta 800 years ago.

We once used to be the light of the world, the country that knew how, the country that could be counted on to do the right thing. No more. I don’t know what to do. I write here, I write my representatives, but to no avail. We seem determined to follow a path that will only bring shame to our country.

I don’t have any words of wisdom to close this posting; all I can ask is that you join me in praying that our country finds its bearings before all is lost.

  1. Hello. I just stumbled onto your blog, and noticed that you are an ex-Lindsborgian who just moved back, right? My husband and I just left Lindsborg a little more than a year ago. I so agree with you and share your sadness on what our government is doing to our basic freedoms…the very things that made us the envy of the world. Having just traveled to Europe, I can say sadly that many now fear for our future and no longer envy us. Keep the faith in my little home town!

  2. Thanks for your support. I do what I can, and hope that every little bit helps.

Did you live here very long? The people are very nice and with the college and all of the artists, Lindsborg is a pretty special place; it can be more worldly than its size might imply.
